INSPIRATION SERIES: NAKADIA

From the rice fields of Thailand to the clubs of Berlin. If ever there was a SE Asia musical fairy-tale then this is most definitely it!

From the humble beginnings of a rural village with no running water, this girl with hopes of becoming a globe trotting DJ should really have had no means or route to manifesting her dreams but Nakadia’s story flies in the face of logic, and proves that determination, belief and talent can combine to become an unstoppable force.

If anything she turned her disadvantage to her advantage as in those early days she had no peers, nor clubs to frequent, so carved out her own definitive style unfettered by the restrictive chains of emulating the more established artists in her realm.

With a huge portion of raw talent and fearless mixing, without a big label behind her, her success is purely self-made, based on the results she delivers both in the DJ booth as in the studio. In a time where labels and home cities seem to matter more than anything, Nakadia proves that quality tunes and a genuine love for the music can make all the difference.

From Berlin to Shanghai this globe trotting, real life fairy-tale story has never looked back and with all of this in mind we were ready willing and able to get an insight into what makes her musical mind tick ahead of her headline set in Bali at Red Ruby on the 3rd October!

Sit back, turn it up and enjoy Nakadia’s inspiration series…

“Tracks that made me the artist that I am today…”

DEPECHE MODE – ENJOY THE SILENCE
Around 2001 (the year I discovered it)
This was probably the first track that I listened to which had a connection with today’s electronic music – back in Thailand, when I had no idea what electronic music was.

SVENSON & GIELEN – TWISTED
The first ever vinyl I bought when I decided to become a DJ.

PRINCE – PURPLE RAIN
Over the years I was digging deeper in all kinds of music and discovered Prince as my favourite artist.

UNDERWORLD – BORN SLIPPY
In 2008 I performed at Love Parade in Dortmund and got to discover and meet Underworld who where also performing there – this performance was a true inspiration to me and will never be forgotten.

CARL COX PLAYING NAKADIA’S “ACID STORM” AT TIME WARP 2019
This year Carl Cox released 3 of my tracks on his label Intec. This was a very special moment in my career, and especially Carl himself playing these tracks and a lot of other of my productions over and over again. I noticed Carl playing my tracks for the first time, when I was watching the TV recording of the Time Warp broadcast 2019…
