INSPIRATION SERIES WITH MATTHIAS MEYER

As part of the W Bali’s on-going collaboration with Mixmag, this Saturday Matthias Meyer is lined up to play a sunset set alongside his fellow Watergate resident Braunbeck and W Bali’s very own Damian Saint.

Matthias Meyer should really need no introduction having released several chart topping hits, and been resident at some of Europe’s most credible nights and venues including Watergate in Berlin of course as well as several of the major nights on the Isle of Ibiza.

We asked the main man to kindly select an Inspirations series of tracks that inspire him, and his chosen theme was based on ‘Emotion’ and it’s a rare opportunity to discover what one of the industry’s leading lights driving musical forces are, so please sit back, tune in and enjoy…

MATTHIAS MEYER’S INSPIRATION SERIES – ‘EMOTION’

MOS DEF – UMI SAYS
Mos Def and all the more emotional groovy hip-hop tracks were a big thing for me before I went into electronic music. For me the best hip-hop tracks were made before 2000. I was a huge fan of Mos Def and his unique eloquence and emotional rap style. This was one of the most important ones for me.

PREFUSE 73 – PERVERTED UNDERTONE
Another fav artist of mine during that period. A great mix of hip hop, electronica, and emotional house vibes. I love the groove and the strings in this track.

MASSIVE ATTACK – UNFINISHED SYMPHONY
A classic and a huge inspiration for me. Love the drums, the bells,  marimba and of course the vocals and strings. It’s always all about strings and pads for me! 😉

MATTHEW DEKAY – HEIMREISE
Unfortunately this is still unreleased. For me one of the biggest eclectic dramatic movie soundtracks come house tunes ever made. Such a powerful track!

DEPECHE MODE – ENJOY THE SILENCE (TIMO MAAS REMIX)
This was and still is probably the most important record for me. Martin Buttrich produced this, also the Loco Dice productions and his own tunes around 2004-?!. Will never forget the moment Robag Whrume aka Wighnomy Brothers played this in Hamburg at the legendary Click club and everybody was holding hands and hugging while dancing. So emotional and one of the best productions I have ever heard!”

So there you have it, a truly beautiful and inspiring selection of emotive music from Matthias, if you enjoyed this insight into what makes him tick then be sure to head down to the W Bali on Saturday!
