INSPIRATION SERIES WITH MR.C

Mr. C has been such an important cog in the wheel of the dance scene in the last few decades years for a number of reasons. Whether as the frontman of The Shamen who smashed counter culture into the mainstream line of sight with their cheeky track Ebeneezer Good amongst others, or as the co-owner of the iconic London night spot, The End or as one of the pioneers of the Tech-House genre. Mr. C has been there, and done it… quite a few times!

A genuine icon of the scene, who came to the fore in the golden era when dance music was widely considered to be underground, alternative and feared by many of the masses so to get to number one in the UK charts was a really big deal, and even more so when they deleted the track after their 4th week at the top!

To give you an idea of his status when The Prodigy put together their first track, ‘Charly’ they went to MR. C for advice..

So it is no surprise that someone with this kind of background would and should choose such a fantastic and eclectic selection of tracks for his inspiration series and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did ahead of his set at Karma Beach Bali on the 15th June!

Liquidator - Harry J & The Allstars
Liquidator is a seminal Rock Steady Ska track that became an anthem in the late 1960s paving the way for the Jamaican Reggae scene. I love this track, which helped turn me on to my love of all things dub.

Life on Mars - Dexter Wansel
Life on Mars is a seminal Jazz Funk track that blew up in the 70s  on the Disco scene as well as the Funk & Soul scenes. I love everything about this track. It’s funky, sophisticated & completely infectious.

Dancing in Outer Space - Atmosfear
Dancing In Outer Space is one of those Disco tracks that when you hear it, you’ll never forget it. It has a breakdown that for sure inspired in some ways the Acid House scene that exploded some 8 years later.

Supernature - Cerone (1977)
One of the best Italo Disco tracks ever made. Very left of centre with an anthemic vocal it’s no surprise this this track is loved by all old school House Music DJs & one that I still love to feature, even in modern sets.

Reachin’ -  Phase 2
The track was released less than a year after I started DJing & was a huge track in my DJ sets during the summer of love in 1988. An extremely positive song about being able to achieve in your dreams by believing in yourself that always puts a smile on my face.
