ARTIST FOCUS: FATBOY SLIM


Where to start with Fatboy Slim aka Norman Cook!? This guy has done more in his career than almost anyone else in the industry. Dependent on your age, knowledge or interest in this giant in the game there are so many incredible nuggets and interesting facts about Fatboy Slim we thought we would pick out some of the most interesting and outstanding…



His first commercial success was actually as a bass player in a UK band called The Housemartins, and they even reached the heady heights of Number one in the charts with a version of Caravan of Love. Fatboy joined the band on the eve of their national tour when the bass player dropped out!

His first commercial success as a solo artist came with his soon to be partner in Beats International MC Wildski with ‘Blame it on the Bassline’ which reached No.29 in the charts.

His first Number one with Beats International ‘Dub Be Good To Me’ ended up being a very expensive success story as the track used some uncleared samples and it cost him so much in royalties it bankrupted him!

Fatboy Slim has played at the mother of all festivals, Glastonbury, for 18 consecutive years… he has famously stated he will play there every year until he drops dead!

Fatboy Slim has been behind a mammoth four studio albums, three live albums, one soundtrack album, two compilation albums, three remix albums, six mix albums, three video albums, five EP’s, 28 singles and 31 music videos!

In 2002 Fatboy Slim brought the city of Brighton to a standstill with one of his now legendary Big Beach Boutique events. The promoters planned for 60,000 people… but over a quarter of a million people turned out!

He is the epitome of evolution holding the Guinness world record for the most Top 40 Chart Hits under different names… 18 in total!!! And those are just the ones that charted… there’s more!

When the multi award winning video for ‘Praise You’ which was done by Spike Jonze was released a lot of people panned it as being a low budget oddity but not only was it a huge success but MTV put it ahead of ‘Thriller’ in their top 30 all time greatest videos… proving creativity beats budget!
