Inspiration Series with Belda

Stemmed from people’s comment that her music is “too disco”, the Jakarta-born and bred Belda schemed a winning plan: why not create a party called Never Too Disco! The evolution, however, started from a disco mixtape she released in her Mixcloud account back in 2013, which then evolved into an intimate party held first in Jakarta, followed by Singapore and Tokyo.

She also has her own radio show called Imaginary Voyage which she started back in 2010 in San Francisco (where she studied Art and learned DJ-ing), a sort of freestyling show where she talks about her imaginary life journey accompanied with good (disco) music—who says video killed the radio star?

Here we spoke to the DJ herself where she share with us her top 5 tracks that recently becomes the dance floor favorite at her Never Too Disco party in 2018.

Phenomenal Handclap Band - Judge Not (Ray Mang Disco Mix)
Phenomenal Handclap Band is one of my favorite band when I first start DJing back in 2009. Their music always sounds so fresh and I'm so fascinated by the combination of disco, soul, rock and psychedelic sound on each tracks they made. This 'Judge Not' track (remixed by one of my favorite artist as well, Ray Mang) was recently release by Toy Tonics label in October and just in time for Never Too Disco 4th year anniversary party last month.

Kiwi - Amityville
I just love the combination of dark electronic music energy mixed with disco vibes in this 'Amityville' track composted by London base producer, Kiwi.

Patti LaBelle - Music Is My Way Of Life
I have always been a big fan of disco tracks with strong lyrics and strong vocals in it. The lyrics on this track had inspire me since the very first time I've heard it. It has such strong statement and message on how music can magically inspire one's soul.

Phyllis Hyman - You Know How To Love Me (Joey Negro Extended Disco Mix)
Phyllis Hyman is one of my favorite female disco singer of all time. The original version of this track has one of the sweetest lyric to it but the Joey Negro disco mix brings so much energy into the song.

Rie Nakahara - Yoru (Yume's Hash)
Lately I've been interested in collecting Japanese disco music and just happen to find this amazing track from a good friend of mine. It's an edit of Rie Nakahara's track called Yoru and has been one of my favorite disco track to drop at any party ever since.
