Inspiration Series with Marshall Jefferson

Widely considered as one of the Godfathers of House Music, this is easily one of the biggest acts to have ever performed at Karma Beach Club and Bali in recent years.

There are some very rare tunes that come along that are such anthems, and so influential and important in their time and place that if that was all you ever did as a musician or producer you could go to your grave knowing your legacy will live on forever and with the house track ‘Move Your Body’ Marshall Jefferson certainly achieved that!

Being the monster of House music that he is, this track proved to be just another chapter in an incredible musical journey spanning 30 years and still going strong so it was a huge honour when the man himself agreed to take the time to put together a musical selection of tracks that inspire him…. Sit back, listen and enjoy this selection of his favourite soul tracks from the Godfather himself:

Gladys Knight And The Pips - Midnight Train To Georgia
Awesome soul track by my all time favorite female vocalist Gladys Knight, just so much emotion in her voice every time she sings.

Isaac Hayes - The Look Of Love
Very influential in my own orchestration, the use of flute and flugelhorn playing against conventional sax/trumpet/trombone going from soft-to-loud-to-soft again in a bed of strings was irresistible to me. Isaac’s vocals were great also.

Curtis Mayfield - Pusherman
Stripped down soul but bass dominant and very heavy lyric. The guitar switches from unaffected to heavy wah wah effect, love it, and Curtis gives time to all the instruments while singing. Everything is in the right place.

Marvin Gaye - Inner City Blues
Social consciousness to the point where every word is still relevant today, a masterpiece.

Kool And The Gang - Summer Madness
Great 70’s instrumental and awesome mixture of synths/guitars, and orchestration.

Thank you so much, Marshall Jefferson! We surely are very excited to see you perform!
