Going In Deep With IndONEsia Together

There is something truly epic going on at OMNIA on the weekend of November the 10th/11th which is being put together by one of the most charitable and generous characters on the Island who also happens to be a resident at OMNIA… Halim Ardie.

It is becoming an annual occurrence that we interview this man about the wonderful selfless work he does whilst still offering people an amazing opportunity to do what they love… dance and have fun!

This year is all about IndONEsia Together at OMNIA which is under the Club Conscious series of events. Raising money for worthwhile causes and encouraging DJ’s to donate their fees to charity whilst also making money in other ways such as Raffles etc.

For this one there are going to be 50 of Indonesia’s finest selectors and mixers from a variety of genres and areas playing together and as if that was not enough to get you inspired to get down and get down there is also another guest… KENNY DOPE GONZALES from Masters At Work!!!

We pinned down the main man to answer a few questions about the event, the charity and the Indonesian DJ circuit in general:

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE BOTH AT OMNIA AND FOR THIS EVENT IN PARTICULAR?
I am one of OMNIA BALI’s resident DJs and I am working with them to help deliver IndONEsia Together Charity Party for Palu and Lombok as part of my Club Conscious event series.

TELL US ABOUT CLUB CONCIOUS, HOW IT STARTED AND WHAT THE AIM WAS AND IS?
Club Conscious follows the ethos of that charity can be fun, through this I aim to use the power of electronic music events as a way to raise funds for charitable causes. It started a couple of years ago, when I wanted to give back for my birthday instead of doing the usual boring birthday bash, I wanted to support an orphanage run by the amazing Pak Eko. As soon I started telling my DJ buddies about the event everyone wanted to support, so it snowballed into this massive party with 24 DJs going back 2 back for 12 hours, with support from some of Bali’s top venues and brands to raise money through raffle tickets, of which 100% of funds raised went to charity. And Pak Eko was able to use them in the construction of a kindergarten for orphans and low-income families.

WHAT ARE YOU RAISING MONEY FOR THROUGH THIS EVENT?
Indonesia has recently been hit by a series of natural disasters in Lombok and Palu, both of which were devastated with human causalities and massive property damage. So this is a way for not only OMNIA Bali to give back, but Bali as a whole. Both Palu and Lombok will need help for the upcoming years to regenerate and reconstruct. Funds raised will be going through NGOs like Kopernik, who have been doing amazing work on the ground and helping getting funds delivered to the right projects, as well the Indonesian national board of disaster management – BNPM. We will be raising funds by way of raffle and silent auction with prize donations from Bali’s top venues, brands and hotels offering packages and experiences. As well as OMNIA will be donating their door fee across both days and companies have the chance to sponsor a VIP cabana for the day, half of which will go towards fundraising.

THERE ARE 50 INDONESIAN DJS PERFORMING AT THIS EVENT WE UNDERSTAND… HOW MANY GENRES ARE THEY COVERING AND WHO ARE THE BIGGEST STARS TO LOOK OUT FOR?

From hip hop to EDM, from house and techno to disco, all genres will be represented. We are very fortunate to live on an island with some top-notch DJs who are also amazing people, all of them will be donating their sets to the cause. Since they are donating their time we are giving them more musical freedom to showcase their style. However, the highlight of the event will be Kenny Dope of the legendary house crew Masters At Work, headlining on the second day November 11th. While on November 10th we will have P Double and Chantal Dewi from Jakarta flying in for the event. And to top it all off, we have Ary who is from Lombok, which we are stoked to have him represent for his hometown.

WHAT ARE THE PRIMARY DIFFRENCES BETWEEN THE SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE STILL TO DECIDE WHICH DAY TO GO?

Saturday will follow OMNIA’s Swim Into - event series which focuses more on pumping party vibes of hip hop and EDM, while Sunday is their signature Phoenix event all about house grooves and of course will be headlined by Kenny Dope for sunset.

HAS THERE EVER BEEN A BIGGER COLLECTIVE OF INDONESIAN DJ’S AT ONE EVENT BEFORE THAT YOU CAN RECALL??
In my recollection no, especially having an international booking headline at charity event, as well as having this many DJs go back 2 back.

HOW STRONG IS THE INDONESIAN DJ CIRCUIT CURRENTLY COMPARED TO OTHER REGIONS IN ASIA AND BEYOND?
I am really impressed with current state of the scene in Indonesia, with collectives all pushing boundaries across all genres, and I would consider it quite strong since all of them are coming together for IndONEsia.

IN A COUPLE OF LINES TELL US WHY YOU THINK THIS EVENT IS ONE THAT EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE ON THEIR CALENDAR FOR THE UPCOMING WEEKEND?
Everyone should come represent at OMNIA for IndONEsia Together and meet on the dance floor as we party to raise funds for our fellow humans in need. What more could you want in a reason to visit the beautiful cliffside of OMNIA Bali?
