The Inspiration Series with Tensnake

Tensnake is a massive name for the Island of The Gods but with it being the W Bali’s flagship event of high season we have learnt to expect nothing less. His prowess on both sides of the dancefloor has been cemented through a back catalogue of worldwide dancefloor classics that have seen him work with some huge names including, Chic, Pet Shop Boys, Lana Del Ray and London Grammar to name but a few.

Equally revered behind the decks it was a genuine honour when he agreed to do a small feature for us as part of our Inspirations series where we asked him to reveal some of the tracks that inspire him to do what he does and it’s a VERY interesting selection to say the least with tracks as diverse as Prefab Sprout through to Mr Fingers… amazing selection and we look forward to dancing under the palm trees at the W Bali with him on Saturday 28th at the SPF Party.

Here are the 5 tracks that inspire me the most.

Mr. Fingers - Can You Feel It
Even though this timeless blueprint for everything deep was released in 1986, I only discovered it years later, in the early 90s, when I started going out and fell in love with electronic music. The track has never left me since and I don’t think I will ever get tired of it.

Metro Area - Miura
I have been a huge fan of Metro Area from the start and particularly "Miura" inspired me to release my first record as Tensnake which is called “Around The House.” Metro Area managed to create a perfect blend of slightly dark and blissful electronic disco, and is another example of a timeless and tasteful production.

Prefab Sprout - Bonny
My favorite pop band from the 80s. The album Steve McQueen is nothing short of a masterpiece and is definitely one of those “pick 5 records you would have on a deserted island” albums for me.
Incredible songwriting, singing, and melodies, build the perfect soundtrack for being heart broken or falling in love.

Chic - I Want Your Love
This is one of my favorite Chic songs, but is just a placeholder for the whole universe of incredible music that Nile Rodgers has created over the years. His songs and productions have hugely influenced me from an early age, and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity of having been able to work with him on my first album Glow which came out in 2014.

LoSoul - Open Door
An incredible track from 1996 which blew my mind when I first heard it. The minor changes in the production which blend in and out over almost 12 minutes create a hypnotic vibe that still works very well for me and constantly finds its way into my sets.
