Secret Bali Soundgirls - #15 - Lady FLiC

Lady Flic
is one of the most sought after DJ’s on the Island of The Gods and has been for quite a while now. Hailing from New Zealand, she made Bali her home 10 years ago when she came for a wedding, and thankfully, overstayed her welcome!

LADY FLiC is renowned for two things in general, great sets and always being up for a good party. Whenever she is playing you can be assured she will get people up and out their seats, either through her music, or her pure unadulterated energy! This is what led to her becoming the music and event director at Potato Head and we understand at time of writing there is a new interesting role in the pipeline at an exciting new venue opening up in Seminyak… hopefully we will get the scoop!

What made you move to Bali?

I came for a friend’s wedding, never thinking I would want to live here, 10 years later here I am!

Having been at the forefront of the music scene in Bali for a substantial period of time, have you seen any change and where do you see it going?

It has changed dramatically! More of everything. More good shit. More bad shit. Not sure where it’s going, i’m not sure how much more expansion the over saturated market can take. I just hope the good operators with a real love of music keep doing their thing.

What’s your get out of jail free record – never fails to lift the crowd?

Alexander Robotnick - Problèmes d'amour 1983

What’s been your most nightmare moment as a DJ?

Two awesome moments spring to mind.
At a big event there was a dj crew from elsewhere in town and they got themselves on the bill cos they knew the headliner, then they got their set time pushed back later during the event as there weren’t enough people in the venue for them to play to, then after the headliner played and I was setting up to play, 3 or 4 of them rushed the stage shouting ‘we are going to play now!’ ‘ What is her problem?!!’ They were escorted off stage by management. Good times.

The other one is when, after repeatedly telling a punter he couldnt have a go, I left the decks for about 3 minutes and when I came back he’d actually put his little USB stick in and was playing, having a great time. So I shut the music off.

What’s your favourite place to walk your dog in Bali?

I usually take her to batu belig beach cos it’s close #lazymum

What do you do in your spare time when you are not spinning records?

I spend most of my time making lists of all the awesome shit i’m gonna do

Where are your favourite places to party in Bali?

Villa parties are usually the most fun. Fave party / hang spots at the moment Chachara and 40 Thieves

If you could change one thing about Bali what would it be?

I wish Bali was on the regular international band/live music circuit. I miss that, living in a big city.
