GOING IN DEEP WITH PARADISE AT SLIPPERY STONE

There is a new night in town and one that Secret Bali Life is whole-heartedly supporting for the concept alone. Currently Disco reigns supreme in Bali and that is not a bad thing at all. It kind of fits the environment, feel good vibes in a paradise setting.

But, and there is definitely a but, an inherent problem in Bali is people see what the neighbours are doing and try to copy it. So it is a refreshing change for someone to come with something a bit different and that’s what we have here from Scott Pullen the man behind Paradise… good old fashioned, hands in the air straight up funky house music.

He has also picked a great venue for it called Slippery Stone in Seminyak, which is a beautiful venue for a night of decadence as you will see in this article. And for his roster of DJ’s he’s picked some great talent who have pretty much lived house music and been involved with every major milestone night or venue from Bali to Ibiza either as DJ’s or deviants!

Ben Burgess, Glynn Tandy and Scott Pullen will be performing at the launch party of Paradise

Tell us a little bit about your background and Groove Academy for those not familiar with the history?

I have been DJing for over 30 years holding residencies at Australian super-clubs; Home, Tank & Ivy & guest spots around the world. I performed at the Sydney 2000 Olympics official closing party to a crowd of 100,000 people & one of the few Australians to make the DJ Magazine Top 100. The Groove Academy is both an entertainment agency I established over 10 years ago & an 8 piece band featuring live vocalists, a 3 piece horn section, drums & DJ. We perform at some of the biggest events & festivals throughout Australia & SE Asia & for client’s including Verve-Clicquot, Porsche, Diesel, Chanel & MTV. I now live in Berawa Canggu.

How did you decide on Slippery Stone as a venue for Paradise?

I’ve performed at some incredible venues around the world, but my partner, Vianca & I, were both completely blown away with how sexy & sophisticated Slippery Stone is. There are so many incredible spaces which offer a unique ambiance designed with ancient Greek architectural elements, including the Goddess Bar, the Santorini Lounge and Courtyard with open air gazebos and it's illuminated Medusa Pond. You’ll be dancing surrounded by water fountains and water walls, statues of Greek gods and goddesses, tall columns and stone floors - nothing short of ‘paradise’!

In your own words how would you describe your music policy at Paradise?

All music has it’s place & there are some excellent DJs here in Bali. We want to bring something new & a little different to what is being offered on the scene. Our music will move you both emotively & physically, bringing a sense of joy back to the dance floor. Our music policy is simply the very best uplifting, sexy, funky house music from around globe.

Pick 4 Tunes that people are guaranteed to hear on the night that sum up the vibe of what you are setting out to create.

Money being no object what would the ultimate Paradise line-up be?

Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier & Joey Negro.

As money is an object, tell us a little about the roster of DJ’s you have selected to play in the coming weeks and months?

There are so many talented DJs in Bali & I’ve been checking them out & talking music with them. All of the DJs we have on the roster have good understanding of dance music & it’s history & they are really excited with the opportunity to play quality house music at Paradise. We believe we have selected the very best house DJs Bali has to offer, including; Stu Mac, Ben Burgess, Glynn Tandy, Phat Phil Cooper, Niina Niina, Dean Dixon, Dan Cook & Morgan Leobet. I’m humbled & blessed to be working alongside such an amazing line up of DJs.
